Mercury Retrograde- Dos and Don’ts

What I’m sharing here are general guidance and personal perspective of how you can work with, rather than against Mercury Retrograde (Mer Rx).

These are not hard and fast rules since they do not take various complexities into account.

For more information, please consult your nearest friendly neighbourhood Astrologer (i.e. Me).

Do: Check and Re-check

About to send that important text or email? Check again.

Scheduled to have a meeting tomorrow? You could be mistaken.

Whatever is it that you think you know, it doesn’t hurt to clarify your information and sources. Expect new data to come in, and be ready to reassess, research and review.

Backup key documents as well. It doesn’t hurt to have a copy.

Don’t: Launch anything new

As a general rule of thumb, use this period to plan and prepare but avoid launching or starting a new phase in your life.

Want to get married? Plan now, do it after the retrograde. Incorporating a company? Do the paper work now, register it later.

Every endeavor has a birth chart and we want to avoid having Mer Rx in it.

While there are exceptions to the above, we certainly don’t want unclear communication in our marriages or business processes.

Do: Tie up loose ends

Finish up what has been lapsing. It’s very likely that these things were left hanging because of incomplete information and data.

The Mer Rx is a good time to collate, verify, check back and work towards a resolution and end of the matter.

This is especially so if issues do show up during the Mer Rx: it calls for a review of your processes and a tying up of loose ends.

Don’t: Jump to the conclusion

A Mer Rx always suggests that there will be more data coming in.

It better to sit on the available information instead of acting on them since something else could come in later to change your assessment of the matter at hand.

As an astrologer, I would advise my clients to use the Mer Rx to gather information and make decisions only in its ending phase.

Trust me, the situation will become clearer by then.

Do: Journal and Go inward

Astrologers look at the retrograde of a planet as ‘working inward’ rather than ‘outward’. This also means that a Mer Rx is the perfect time to journal, write and explore what’s on your mind.

Just as you spend time researching the matter at hand, consider using the Mer Rx to ‘research’ on how you connect the dots.

This is especially powerful and effective if you are trying to make a decision. You’d be surprised by the clarity you can get from it.

Don’t: Resist the problems

The worst thing we can do in a Mer Rx is to be frustrated about the cock-ups and fuck-ups (pardon my language).

Every event is inherently neutral and is neither ‘good’ nor ‘bad’. It is only when we resist what we think is bad that suffering begins.

Rather than resisting the problems that show up , I’d offer us to see them as opportunities to examine what’s already not working and invent new possibilities (i.e. plug loopholes and tie up loose ends).

Remember: work with rather than against the Mer Rx.

Some Final Thoughts:

Mer Rx actually happens quite often in a year and there’s really very little need to fuss over it.

So please, don’t blame everything on Mer Rx 😅. It doesn’t cause the issues that show up; it simply signals them. It is more powerful to take ownership of the situation than to ‘blame it on the retrograde’.

If you are looking for additional resources to tide through this period, either book a consultation with me or come for the Jupiter Ritual workshop I am doing with Abel in June.
